Jake’s primary jobs are training officer and helping with overall management of the department. Jake has 38 years in the fire and EMS service. Jake has been with the department since 1990 and has served in roles as firefighter, EMT, safety officer, training officer, Lieutenant, and Captain.

Education and Experience

  • Graduated from Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement
  • academy at Washtenaw Community College
  • Firefighter/EMT with Higgins Twp. FD 1986-1990
  • Wildland Fire Supervisor for the Roscommon Management Unit, Forest Resources Division, Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
  • Certified national in many wildland fire ICS positions including ICT3, DIVS, RxB2 and others.
  • Incident Commander for MI DNR Type 3 IMT.
  • Multiple out of state wildfire assignements.
  • Instructor for the Michigan State Firefighter I and II courses and Emergency Vehicle Driver course.


  • Jake and his wife Mary Ann have been a lifelong resident of Roscommon and Mary Ann works as an administrative assistant for the township.
  • Jake serves on the Roscommon County 911 Technical Board.
  • Assisted with the Gerrish Fire and EMS Explorer post, and 4H Basketball coach.
  • Jake is a past member of the Michigan State Firemen’s Memorial Festival Committee.


Jake enjoys spending time with his family, including his six grandchildren, riding his Harley, hunting and fishing.
